May 6: Sunday Summit to Princeton (~35km)
Knowing myself to have a short, easy day ahead, I decided to do some extra sleeping, and managed to remain in the sack until 8am (my touring routine seems to be 6am wake, breakfast and break camp until 8am, begin riding, with ongoing snacking and drinking, having an extra apple at 11am, and a sandwich or somesuch at 2pm, and finally stopping at 6pm to set up camp, have dinner, take notes for the day, and get to sleep by 9pm.) I took my time getting going, and didn’t actually hit the road until 10:30am. The ride to Princeton was pretty much a coast, for which I used the brakes to keep the bike under control, but generally didn’t make much use of the pedals. I stopped for some pictures, pushed my 11am apple back to noon, and made it to Princeton by 1pm.
Some of the scenery on the way down:
Upon getting to Princeton, I noticed that there seemed to be some chunk of town at the level I was at, and another chunk a couple hundred feet down another slope. Given that there was an elementary school right near me, I decided to check there where the public library was, before heading down to look for it and risking a(n admittedly short) climb back up on my “easy day”. Sure enough it was down the hill, so I went in, used the computer, headed to the bike shop to replace my mounts and helmet (and get one of them fancy cycle computer things, since the km signs on the highway seem to have stopped once I passed Sunday Summit), and was picked up at the bike shop for a lift into Coalmont where I’d be spending the night and my rest day (much of which was spent writing these entries).
