May 28: Parkbeg to Moose Jaw (~68km)

Bikely map

I got an early start in, and rode on for about 20km before deciding that, while I wasn’t going to be able to make Regina, I’d still make Moose Jaw with ample spare time, so when I came to Mortlach and saw it to be a well-serviced town, I decided to take a quick internet break, check the weather, and do other such relaxing things.

Pulling into town, I discovered that it is where Chris had called an end to his previous day, and that he hadn’t yet gotten a start on his day. We caught up a little, exchanged some information, and agreed to meet up in Moose Jaw. He then began his day, while I dropped into the local Tea Room (run by a couple of mostly-retired Welsh immigrants, who are very much enjoying having a little teahouse out in the country, but also bringing some more contemporary British traditions into town, like a monthly curry night at the teahouse–though I arrived at entirely the wrong time of month to avail myself of that).

Anyhow, the ride was again largely uneventful, much like the day before, with less to photograph by way of interesting scenery. I did grab a shot of the welcome sign for Moose Jaw since, after the past few towns I’d stopped in, I figured that it had set a pretty high bar for itself in its motto/description:

Interestingly enough, the warmshowers host in Moose Jaw grew up in/around Mortlach, so that Chris and I had both stopped there made for a little extra interesting conversation while visiting.
